Into the Heart
Written and Directed by Angela Jobson
Into the Heart was a winning film in Northern Film & Media and New Writing North's Words and Vision Contest. The contest linked regional poets, novelists and theatre writers with filmmakers. Writers were invited to submit an original poem which responded to the title of Sense of Place, film makers then submitted an idea inspired by one of the selected poems. Five film scripts were selected by a panel which included the poets, the prize was a production budget of 1,000 pounds for each scriptwriter.
Taking on board the theme of a sense of place, this film explores the relationships between time and place and also the boundaries of place which are imposed on us by society.
Into the Heart was inspired by the poem, The Other Woman, by Lizzie Whyman.
To walk into the heart of a colour
Is to change yourself forever
I heard this on the radio once
and think of it when you arrive
warm from a family, with freckles
of yellow pain on your forehead.
These years, in public, at parties,
I have had the patience of a pointillist..
I am ready to show you now,
my love of uncomfortable silences.
